New Year’s Eve Party at Home. Six Tips for a Successful One
You’ve decided to have your New Year’s Eve party at home this year. No matter how many guests you are having, the shopping lists, setting up the house and planing the whole get together can be pretty stressful. Here are six tips to make things easier and take care of the essentials.
1. Food and drinks
Have the food, drinks and accessories ready to go and laid out ahead of time, for your guests to help themselves.
If you don’t have the time or the budget to fix all the food yourself, organize a fun bring your own appetizer with your guests. Have them bring the appetizer of their choice, be it something homemade, like a salad, or something right out the shelf, like cheese and crackers or mixes of nuts.
2. New Year’s Eve party at home. Take a coat for a drink
Have the punch bowl or some champagne cocktails ready and hand your guests a drink as soon as they arrive.
3. New Year’s Eve party at home. Music
Prepare a playlist for the party. Start with festive background music, as your guests arrive and continue with a wide selection of tunes to fit the taste of everybody present.
4. New Year’s Eve party at home. Mood
Everyone looks and feels better in a soft glow. So dim the lights and use lamps and as many candles as you can to create that. A scented candle that smells like the holidays would make a nice addition.
5. New Year’s Eve party at home. Fun and games
You can enjoy some special New Year’s Eve games with your guests on this long night. Turn New Year’s resolutions into a guessing game. Print cards with these fill-in-the-blanks: “The bad habit I want to kick this year is ―――.” “The good deed I want to do this year is ―――.” “The skill I want to learn this year is ―――”. After everyone has completed his card, leaving it unsigned, gather all the cards, read them aloud randomly, then let the gang try to figure out who wrote what.
Dress yourself or have someone else dress as a fortuneteller and read the new year predictions for every zodiac sign. You’ll easily find those online.
6. New Year’s Eve party at home. Send everyone off safely
Make sure your guests get home safely and don’t let anybody drink and drive. Call them a cab or a Uber car as a complimentary host service.
