How to Make a Basic Tomato Sauce

We all know that homemade foods are much healthier than the ones we purchase in the store. From various spices, to pickles or homemade bread, these are all a healthy alternative to what we find in supermarkets. Besides, as far as the tomato sauce is concerned, the one kept in glass containers is much safer and healthier than the one preserved in aluminum cans. Besides, it’s very easy to prepare. Here is the recipe:

Ingredients:

  • 10 kilos of tomatoes
  • 3 tablespoons  salt
  • 3 tablespoons sugar
  • sunflower oil

Recipe:

Wash tomatoes, remove pigtails and cut into large pieces. Then put in the special machine that separates skin and seeds. Using this machine, you will be able to separate the pulp from  juice. If you do not have such a device, put the tomatoes to boil, and then, after they have boiled, put them in a sieve and press them with a wooden spoon until you get the pulp and juice, without seeds or skin.

The next step is to put the juice and pulp obtained in a saucepan or in a low-open pot with wide opening. Boil the sauce, stirring from time to time with the wooden spoon. After the juice has decreased significantly, add the salt and sugar (dissolved in a some hot water).

Allow the composition to give in a few boils and put the sauce in sterilized jars. To ensure that the sauce does not ferment over winter, pour a fine film of oil before putting the lid on each jar. Cover the jars with a blanket and leave them at room temperature for one day, then move them into a cool room.
