Interesting Roof Designs – Original Lines
A house catches our eye through its design or a façade rich in ornaments and original accents which make it stand out. We rarely glance up beyond the eaves, to the roof, because we know we usually find some classic lines up there. Most of the time, because, otherwise, there are some breathtaking roof designs which make heads turn and personalize homes, giving them a more dynamic look. Below are some of the most interesting roof designs.
A roof which seems to be dripping in the image below showing a house in San Francisco. With round and gentles shapes, the roof sets the whole image in motion and appears to be rolling out of the scene, rendering the landscape more dynamic. The image features chromatic uniformity, with two separate plans marked by the two preponderant colors.
A rustic style cottage, but original in all aspects. Apart from the unusual masonry, with stones appearing to have been higgledy-piggledy set in the wall, the roof of this home in the suburbs of Milwaukee seems to have descended from a fantasy movie.
A roof which again brings an old house out of the anonymity. The image is flanked by the high chimney and the corners clad in bricks, while the moving roof stands in the middle, drawing all the attention.
A house which also seem to be in motion, as if rolling on caterpillar tracks. The green roof which goes all the way down at the back of the house perfectly integrates the home in the surrounding environment, leaving the impression the house just popped up out of the ground.
The same with this roof on top of a house in Seattle. It looks like a moss and lichens covered terrace rather than the roof of a home. The chromatic set up of plants is interesting, harmonizing the roof with the sunset in the background.
Leaving traditional lines aside, we move on to contemporary design where shapes embody the most expressive manifestation. Here too roofs spread in various ways, up and down, flowing endlessly and drawing all the attention. The image below shows a house south of Vienna with a roof that seems to go on forever.
Out of the rich offer of contemporary designs, here is a house in Japan which appears to fit the traditional pattern, yet it is different. The conventional silhouette is offset by an inset flat-fronted glass roof panels that look out onto an upper level terrace, city and nature.
