Mosquito repellent plants
Summer is coming and along with it so are the mosquitoes and insects that bother our sleep and leave unsightly marks on our skin. We can get rid of them in the classic manner of nets fitted to windows and doors, but still intruders manage to get inside. Do not despair and, as in many other occasions, search for the answer in nature and turn to mosquito repellent plants. Below are a few examples, many of which can be purchased or grown at home:
– First, walnut leaves. Those raised in the country know that around a walnut does not grow much so we can pull a bunch of leaves to put them at the window. Certainly mosquitoes will turn away when feeling their scent
– Citronella – is, say experts, the best barrier nature can provide to protect your room from mosquitoes due to its strong flavor. It can be easily grown around the house, even in containers
– Mint, with its specific flavor is another herb that can be an obstacle to uninvited insects. As with citronella, and it can be grown in the garden
– Rosemary, another aromatic flowering plant that keeps the mosquitoes away, besides the proven role it also plays in the kitchen (in the main picture)
– Savory – from the same category of plants that usually end up in the cooking pots. Its strong flavor keeps the tiny intruders away from our rooms
– Basil is another herb whose strong smell gets in the way of mosquitoes seeking to feed themselves
– Marigolds – the plants we see everywhere contain an ingredient found in the composition of many of mosquitoes repelling sprays. Besides being aesthetics, marigolds can serve as natural barriers against uninvited insects
– Garlic – one of the many mosquito repellent plants at our fingertips (that is if we resist the smell). Studies have shown that if we eat garlic mosquitoes will not be bothered by the odor. But if we put garlic cloves in the pots by the window, either indoors or outdoors, then they will think twice before entering the house
– Geranium, another barrier pleasant to the eye small but annoying for the tiny intruders. It can easily be planted in hanging pots, near your window
– Lavender – one of the many mosquito repellent plants, with it you can shoot two birds with one stone: decorate your garden with a plant having a unique scent, but keep mosquitoes away. It may as well be placed inside the house.
