Why It Is Not Advisable

From fences and annexes, to industrial buildings or sheds, as well as foundations and non-load-bearing walls, concrete blocks have been used in constructions due to their low price, large dimensions, increased resistance and because it’s easy, time saving and economical to build with them. Nevertheless, you won’t find a lot of houses made of concrete blocks, because they are bad thermal insulators and would make a very cold home.

Concrete blocks are the cheapest material for building annexes besides adobe bricks. They are made of cement with sand, water and blast-furnace cinder. The resulting mixture is cast into special molds then pressed using vibrations. They can be home-made as well, using some iron sheet molds.

Houses made of concrete blocks. Why it is not recommended?

You won’t find many concrete block houses nowadays, when looking for energy saving living solutions has become a priority. The main reason for this is their bad insulating quality, resulting in increased heating costs and resource consumption in winter.

Even though concrete block walls can be insulated, they are mainly used in building cellar walls, where a low temperature is required, storehouses or garages.

They are also more fragile than bricks and autoclaved aerated concrete (AAC), less bearing and are prone to moist and dampness.

Houses made of concrete blocks. Benefits

Besides their low cost, concrete blocks are big, easy to work with and time-saving in constructions.

The ones who interested in this type of building material can also find on the market hollow concrete blocks for the foundation, filled with reinforced concrete or monolith.
