Tolkien’s stories and the film adaptations which drew tens of millions of movie buffs to cinemas across the world is starting to also impact architecture and home building. The organic shapes of the hobbits’ homes have inspired architects and designers from the four winds and a number of similar houses are starting to come up here and there. One of these visionaries is Kristie Wolfe, a tiny house entrepreneur who decided to design her own off-grid Hobbit house in Washington state, and soon there will be two more.

Wolfe, a tiny home designer and a dressmaker, bought a 5.5 acre plot near Chelan, Washington where she could build a Hobbit home into the mountain, according to Inhabitat. The home is 288 square feet (almost 27 square meters) and includes a bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, and living space. It’s filled with rustic details such as round windows and a stone fireplace. Wolfe got creative with items like cable spools and driftwood bowls – she used a big spool for the round door and transformed the bowl into a beautiful sink
