How To Build A Desk. Ideas You Can Easily Put Into Practice
A desk is a furniture item which we all need, especially in these times when, willy-nilly, work is also done from home and the desk is the place you have to often turn to. In those happy cases, the desk can only be used to surf the web or for other spare time activities. And since we are already used to building many things around the home, below are several brief technical details showing you how to build a desk, from simple to complex plans.
The first example is what the handyman who built it calls a minimalist desk. To build what we can see below, he used an old door panel and some pieces of wood from an old bed. The first step was building the work horses, two on each side, supporting the desk top. It takes 14 piece of wood to build them: four for each leg, two beams at the top where the legs join and other four at the base, stabilizing the work horses. The four planks at the bottom (two on each work horse) are attached with the help of some small transversal pieces of wood. Another beam connects each of the two work horses at the top while another small scrap of wood helps the three beams have a firmer joint.
Once the two legs are build, you only have to attach the door panel as desktop. This will be supported by the transversal beam that connects the each of the two work horses and, again, to make the desk more stable, use wood scraps on each side of the transversal beam, as the images show. The two scraps of wood can be attached by using mortises and tenons and then drill screws in them from the bottom to secure the desktop. At the end of it, the handyman used wine corks and double side tape to attach at the bottom of the work horses lest they scratch the floor.
