Probably most of the ingenious and sustainable homes seen on the Internet are beyond the price range of many people, however attractive and tempting these projects may seem. But not everything contemporary is automatically expensive and inaccessible to many. It is the case of some prefabricated tiny homes manufactured by an American company which make a modern and accessible living alternative. And, even more interesting, these houses can be ordered and then assembled by customers wherever their plans require.

The arched houses, as they are called, come in different sizes so that to answer needs of various sized families, coming in a single or two story design. According to Inhabitat.com, a standard kit comes complete with floor plates, ribs, a ridge beam, R13 insulation (which can be upgraded to R25 insulation for cooler climes), Super Span roof paneling, along with trim and fasteners. It doesn’t come with a foundation, installation, interior finishings or end caps. Sizes range from 14 feet wide and 12 feet tall to 24 feet wide 32 feet tall, and they are custom designed for those who require particular dimensions.

These tiny homes are rated for 150 mph winds and 30 PSF (pounds per square feet) of snow, so they are pretty flexible and durable since manufactures want to ship them to Canada and Alaska as well. As concerns their wide range of uses, owners say “in our time building Arched Cabins we have seen them used for everything you can think of, including workshops, animal shelters, vacation homes, RV shelters, retirement homes, and hunting lodges. No matter what your need is, an Arched Cabin can be adapted to suit you,” according to the company website.

With all the basic furnishings, the cheapest arched cabin costs a little under 5,000 USD. Arched Cabins can be fully insulated and built out with lofts and finished interiors to be the home or cabin of your dreams, or they can be minimally insulated and finished with basic end caps to be used for an animal shelter or garage, the company further says.
